Stainburn Publications
is a new venture set up by Loraine and Michael Sydney. Our first title published on December 3rd 2009 titled Bleeding Blisters and Opium, is the story of Joshua Dixon and the Whitehaven Dispensary.

We aim to specialise in the rich medical history of West Cumbria. Our next publication, planned for 2010, is an edited transcript of the Annual Reports of the Whitehaven Dispensary. This unique set of reports will be a valuable resource for both local and medical historians, and will also entertain anyone with an interest in local history.

In 2011, we hope to publish a History of the Dispensaries of Cumberland and Westmorland.
